The Feast Of All Cultures - Solapur

Solapur city is an important city in the south Maharashtra. Solapur city also known as textile mill city. Solapur was also known as Sonaligi or Sonalpur in ancient times.

During the Freedom Sangram Shri. Jagannath Shinde, Shri. Kurban Hussain, Shri. Mallappa Dhanshetti, and Shri. Kisan Sarda had given their sweat in Solapur on 12 January 1931. From that day onwards Solapur city is also known as Hutatma city. Apart from that, Solapur is famous for Textile as it produces Textile mostly from any other city in India.

The total area of Solapur is 14844 Sqkm and the average rainfall is 545 mm.

Siddeshwar Temple, Bhuikot Fort, Mallikarjun Temple, and Hutatma garden are the main attractions of Solapur.

Pandharpur, Tuljapur, and Akkalkot are the  well known traditional places also located near the Solapur.

Solapur is a multilanguage city because it is located near borders of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh hence people speak Marathi as  well as Telugu, Kannada, and Urdu.
Apart from that, Telugu and Kannada films also are released here.

Siddeshwar Yatra is one of the biggest festival celebrated in Solapur during Makar Sakranti. One of the prominent celebrations during the Siddheshwar Yatra commemorates this wedding, wherein the Nandi dhwajas (decorated bamboo poles) are presumed to be the bride and groom and taken out in a procession.

Some of the other rituals performed during the festival include Tailabhishek which is performed on the first day, Akshata on the second day and Hom on the third, followed by a display of fireworks on the fourth day at the Siddheshwar temple campus.

"There are 68 Shiva Lingas installed by Siddheshwar himself and the annual fair comes to an end with a parikrama of all the Shiva Lingas spread over the city. The Nandi dhwajas are tied around the waist of devotees who carry it," said Swami.

Along with being a symbol of Shaivbhakti or faith in Veershavism, the Gadda Yatra is also a social gathering which creates communal harmony within the society bringing together people from all religions," said Swami.

Solapur is the 4th cleanest railway station in India ranked A-1 among 500 main stations in India.
Solapur is going to develop a smart city, as govt included Solapur's name in smart cities list.
